In a view to enhance and strengthen communal peace and progress in the state of Osun, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Ajibola Basiru has Inaugurated two Justice of Peace.
In his speech, Dr. Basiru when presenting the certificates to the Awardees stated that to bring justice to people at the grassroot is an important aspect to alternative dispute resolution mechanism.
This was contained in a statement released by Mr. Opeyemi Bello, the information officer of the ministry of justice and made available to Amiloaded on Monday.
The Attorney General said the move was to reduce substantial number of issues being brought to the attention of the regular court and the police.
The Acting Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice, Mr Dapo Adeniji
who administered the oath of office to the awardees, implored them to abide with the rules and regulations that guide the conduct of Justice of Peace.
He stated that sections 12, 13, 14 & 15 of the magistrate court laws Cap.77 VOL. 4 Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003, deal
specifically with functions and the removal of Justice of peace.
Dr. Basiru warned that the power of a Justice of peace can be revoked at any time if awardee is found to be unworthy of the privilege.
Chief Idowu Esuleke who spoke on behalf of the awardees appreciated the effort of Governor of the state of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Ministry of Justice for their concerns about enhancing communal peace.
He therefore implored the awardees to work with the state government in order to achieve communal peace across the state.
