Dignataries Storm Iwoland As Oluwo Installs Ex-UNIOSUN VC Asiwaju-Odo of Iwoland

The Iwoland was agog on Saturday for the installation of a former Acting Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Oguntola Jelil Alamu, as the Asiwaju-Odo of Iwoland by the Oluwo of Iwoland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu 1.

Prominent personalities including the Secretary to the Osun state government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti,  Gafar Amere , Rasaq Salinsile, special adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Information and Strategy, Mr. Semiu Okanlawo, officials  from Osun state University among others.

Oluwo had on Thursday 11th January, 2017 appointed Professor Alamu the Asiwaju Odo.

Professor Oguntola Jelil Alamu hails from the Ogunajo family in Iwoland. He bagged West African School Certificate ‘O’ level with distinctions in 7 subjects from Baptist High School, Iwo in 1988. He was trained as a Mechanical Engineer at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso and the University of Ibadan. He is a member of notable professional organizations including Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigeria Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), Council for Renewable Energy in Nigeria (CREN) and African Wind Energy Association (AFRIWEA).

He is a very experienced university administrator having held various administrative positions at one time or the other in his over nineteen (19) years in the Nigerian University system. He has established and nurtured various academic programmes for Universities in Nigeria. Professor Alamu is a scholar of note. He is an external examiner to six (6) Nigerian Universities. He is an accomplished researcher, whose efforts have resulted in over 50 scholarly works published both locally and internationally as well as over 30 national and international conference presentations. In the ranking of scientists in Nigeria Institutions according to Google Scholar Citations public profiles released in March 2015, Prof. Alamu Oguntola Jelil was ranked amongst top 500 researchers; emerging as the highest ranked Scientist from Osun State University at that time.

He has also rendered services to the community at local, state, national and international levels. He has contributed to Iwoland development through his membership of Ogunajo Descendants Union, Amity Club of Nigeria, Iwo, Allahu Mo’iy International Society and The Skatelinks, Iwo. He is also the President and member of Board of Trustee of Albayan International Foundation (AIF). He was a participant at the National Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy Review in 2011. He has served as a State Inspector for the conduct of West African School Certificate Examinations and recently as the Chairman, Committee on the Repositioning of Tertiary Institutions in Osun State. He has been an active participant at various programmes of Association of West Africa Universities (AWAU) and Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). He participated at the 2016 International Quality Assurance for Higher Education held at the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom.

Professor Alamu is a Pioneer. He has been decorated with several Distinguished Pioneering Awards. He was conferred with Award of Academic Excellence by the LAUTECH Alumni Association for breaking the record as the First Alumnus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology to become a Professor. He was honoured as the first recipient of/inductee into Hall of Fame by the Federation of Iwoland Students Union (FILSU). According to the Paramount ruler of Iwoland, Professor Alamu’s appointment as the Asiwaju-Odo of Iwoland is an epoch-making development as he will be the first recipient of this revered Chieftaincy title in the history of Iwoland. According to an illustrious elder in Iwoland, High Chief Adekunle Alabi (JP), “this Chieftaincy title is first of its kind in our kingdom and it is well deserved”.

Iwoland is blessed with a visionary monarch, who is committed to monumental development of his territory. He believes that the development of community is a dynamic process involving all segments of the locality, including the often-overlooked youth population. Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi recognize Youth as a valuable resource for organizations and groups involved in community development.
