The Osun State Coordinate of the APC Youth League has expressed it’s pleasure over the proclamation of June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day by the Federal Government.
The group said the step was an attempt to redress some injustice done to the Yoruba race by previous governments of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
In a statement issued by the state Coordinator of the youth with of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Comrade ‘Muyi Oyewale, the group appreciated the gesture of the Federal Government of Nigeria led by President Muhammadu Buhari for the National honour given to the acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 Presidential election, Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale ABIOLA and his running mate, Alhaji Baba Gana Kingibe.
“Most particularly too, we thank the President for remembering the effort and contributions of the late human rights activist and leading figure in the restoration fight for the June 12 mandate,Late Chief Gani FAWEHINMI (SAM, SAN).
“We are very happy that the Progressive fold is once again vindicated by the Presidential declaration of June 12 as the true Democracy Day instead of May 29. President Buhari has secured for himself an incomparable position in history for summoning the courage to take this historic step and honouring Chief MKO Abiola and others.
“We, again, want to reiterate that, there are more issues the race is seeking the Federal Government’s commitment and action to redress. We seek redress for the gruesome killing of the Cicero of Esa Oke, Chief Bola Ige; Late Kudirat Abiola; Late Chief Alfred Rewane, Mr Dele Giwa and many others numerous to mention.
“We also want to use this medium to salute the courage of our true Leaders, the Vice President, Prof. Oluyemi Osinbajo, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Baba Adebisi Akande, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola for their love and vision for this race.
It is our prayers that someday, very soon, Nigeria shall experience total restructure of all sectors of our existence,” the statement reads.
