June 12: Buhari Deserves Nigerians’ Accolades, He Did What Predecessors Couldn’t Do – Rotimi Makinde

A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rotimi Makinde has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for declaring June 12 as nation’s Democracy Day.

Makinde, who wishes to return to the lower chamber during the forthcoming general elections, said the president deserves celebrations from Nigerians and not condemnation.

In a statement he made available to journalists, Makinde said the presidential decision showed that the 1993 election has been “deannulled. “

The chieftain of the All Progressives Congress said,  “No sane and sound person will condemn the idea and the spirit behind the honour bestowed on Late Mko Abiola and Late Gani Fawehinmi as pronounced by the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“God created Sarah, she was barren for many years; not by her will, eventually she was blessed. Yet she thanked God. At last, Late Mko Abiola of blessed memory and its struggle was eventually honoured and vindicated.

“Lets appreciate it, appreciate Mr President and celebrate it, this was what can not be achieved by his own kinsman and other clueless government.

Its an indirect way to deannulle the 1993 election. Its a victory for democracy and total victory for those noble men and women who fought along with those late gallant heroes of the democracy we are now enjoying.”
