2018: Aregbesola’s Successor Must Come From Osun West, APC Elders Insist

The Elders council of the All Progressives Congress in Ede South Local Government Area of Osun state has reaffirmed it’s long held stance that the successor to incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola must be from Osun West Senatorial District.

Refuting the news recently published in Nigerian Newspaper and some online media that Ede was not part of those making the agitation, the elders declared their Chaiman, Mr. Deji Agboola,  who was said to have made the statement that opposed the agitation for Osun West as a persona non grata.

In a statement the APC elders Forum made available to journalists, a copy of which was obtained from Suraju Akorede on Wednesday,  Agboola was accused of working against the interest of the people of the zone and was also alleged to have been fraudulent.

The elders therefore called on the ruling party  leadership to warn Agboola to desist from causing crisis among the elders of the party in the area.

They said Agboola has no right and capacity to speak for them. They denied him as the chaiman of the forum.

Agboola had recently declared that the agitation by some elders in Osun west senatorial district that the APC flag bearer for the coming September 22 governorship election be picked from the zone was a mere joke, an idea which does not go along with provision of party constitution.

He was quoted while affirming his support for one of the APC aspirants who visited the area on consultation that “the Ede South Elders are not part of the Osun West Agenda,” saying “though, they are part of West senatorial district but are totally against such agitation as it is against the spirit and letter of Nigeria’s and APC constitution.” He described the zoning as inimical to growth and development of any society.

But the elders insisted on the Osun West agenda and said that Agboola’s statement did not in any way represent the general opinion of the elders of the APC in  Ede South.

‘’The Elders council of the APC in Ede South are integral part of the party structure in the west senatorial district of our state and cannot and will not do anything or dissociate ourselves from any collective agitation that will serve the collective interest of our party. ‘’

‘It is important to state here that in our collective resolve to toe the line of justice and fairplay,  we identify with our colleagues and leaders in other local governments of the West senatorial district in this struggle.’’

The statement called on general  public to be wary of actions and characters of Deji Agboola who, it said, is popularly known for “all -round fraudulent activities in the party in Ede South and  beyond.”

“Deji Agboola is known for incidents of names dropping, forgery and obtain by false pretenses. He has several challenges hanging around his neck like the case of using his immediate brother Damola and one of his wives to extort money from delegates during APC party activities in Ibadan in 2014.

‘’Dropping of the name of a former honorable member to commit fraud in the State college of Education,  Ila Orangun in 2013 and impersonation of late senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke in one of federal government agencies in Abuja before the late senator ordered that he shouldn’t be allowed into his house anywhere again. His latest fraudulent act is his claim of being the chairman of elders council of Ede South APC.”

They therfore called on  aspirants during this electioneering period to be careful of the person of Agboola as his involvement in their activities would cause more damages to the party.
