Ekiti Election: A Triumph of Merit Over Geographical Mischiefs – DAG

A social -political organization,  Development Advocacy Group (DAG) has congratulated, Ekiti State Governor Elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi,  the people of Ekiti state for the peaceful and successful conduct of the just concluded election and particularly for rising above the ethnic and geographical hatred vigorously preached by politicians during the election.

DAG in a statement signed by its Public Relation Officer, Wasiu Ibraheem, and made available to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday,  said Ekiti election is a lesson to politicians whose trade in stock is religion and ethnic sentiment  to gain political power that people are more politically sophisticated to choose the best regardless of the tribe, religion or geographical delineation.

He said the result of the election was a clear statement that that zoning agitations before Ekiti governorship election never represent the wish of the majority, rather parochial interest of few elites.

The group also commended the political parties that participated in the election for resisting the temptation and harassment of zoning agitators before and after the party primaries by providing open platform for the people of Ekiti state to choses the best in their own wisdom and judgment.

“You would recalled that before the party primaries in Ekiti state, some politicians who perhaps lacks manifesto or goodies to promise the people brought to the fore, the agitation to zone the governorship position to Ekiti South Senatorial District who last produced the governor in the old Ondo state with clear intention to edged out the two former governors, Segun Oni and Kayode Fayemi who are from Ekiti North Senatorial districts.

“We saluted the people of Ekiti state for boldly rejecting the hate speech of zoning through the ballot and prove that the place of birth or region does not matter rather, quality leadership with political will to transform the state.

“The spread of the result reflected the acceptability of Fayemi across the state by even wining 4 out of the 6 local governments from Ekiti South where the ruling PDP candidate  Olusola Eleka and other zoning agitators came from which means people choose the best not the south in Ekiti state.

“That is the gesture we are advocating in Osun governorship election  that politicians must desist from the hate speech and zoning sentiment to give the state the second best, instead of engaging electorates on how to resolve the social and economic deficiencies in the state to make life abundant for the people.”

“As we have previously insisted, the appease to zoning is mere emotional tool to establish a negative values to serve the interest of the few politicians and not the people of the state, weather from the West, East or Central, what is important is decent life for the people , if zoning had its way in Ekiti, APC would have sacrifice the best for the second best or probably the worst  on the altar of sentiment and emotion” . The statement read.

The group however urged Fayemi to reciprocate the gesture by running all inclusive government that  devoid primordial sentiments because the people of Ekiti have not elected him because is from the north or south rather on the basis of good governance and quality leadership.
