The South West Forum of Chairmen of the People’s Democratic Party have met and discussed extensively the polity and policies of the ruling All Progressives Congress with accusations that APC has not shown any serious sign of sustaining the nation’s democracy.
The party chairmen who met in Ibadan, capital of Oyo state condemned what they described as the barbaric and undemocratic attitudes of the APC across the country.
The Chairmen also resolved to stand against all strange methods of governance that are unknown to modern day democratic process.
Rising from the deliberations, the Southwest PDP chairmen consisting of Hon. Olasoji Adagunodo-Oluwatukesi, Osun; Barrister Georgie Gboyega Oguntuwase, Ekiti; Chief Faboyede Clement, Ondo; Chief Omokunmi Mustapha, Oyo and Chief Sikirulai Ogundele
of Ogun States, wondered if APC would allow the general elections next year to be successful.
The forum of PDP Southwest Chairmen signed a release and issued it to journalists on Monday.
They said, “The untoward attitude which happened in Edo and Ondo States got to its climax in Ekiti State where 30,000 police personnel and military forces were dispatched to carry out the intention to rig the election in that State with bracing ignominy.
“Internally, all Nigerians know that internal democracy does not exist in APC, to say the least, the chairmen were taken aback that APC as a political party cannot successfully conduct its primary elections in Ekiti and Osun and congresses in 26 states of the federation while their National Convention ended up as a national disgrace.
We wonder how APC will allow a successful, free, fair and credible general election in the country. The outcome of those processes clearly ended up telling Nigerians that the APC as a political party is not ready to nurse and nurture democracy to fruition in this country and this was viewed by the forum of PDP chairmen in the South West as a dangerous trend aimed at fostering a one-party system on our dear nation.
“We equally frown at the way the APC terrorizes innocent opposition leaders by persecuting and prosecuting them through the infamous EFCC.
“Unfortunately, while they feel fulfilled terrorizing others, they have never deemed it necessary to embark on internal cleansing in their own political party where corruption is endemic, unprecedented and monumentally at the peak in the history of our country.
“It is no longer a secret that APC is merely waging a meaningless war against those they perceive as adversaries. They have also embarked on ethnic cleansing as evident in their activities in Benue, Plateau and Taraba states.”
The PDP chairmen forum frowned at the brutal attack on personal liberty of the perceived enemies and opponents both within and outside their party.
“The siege on the Senate President and Deputy Senate President’s residences, the continuous attack on Senator Dino Melaye and the intended prosecution and persecution of other opposition leaders came under serious condemnation and the efforts of our heroes past must not go in vain.
“The cases of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Senator Dino Melaye, Olisa Metu and Col. Sambo Dasuki are good examples of APC being a regime with unsurpassable records of harassment, persecution and intimidation of opposition leaders.
“We stoutly stand by Prof. Olusola Eleka, the candidate of PDP and the incumbent governor, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose on their efforts at reclaiming the stolen mandate of Ekiti people. The illegality and immorality committed by APC, INEC and the Police during the Ekiti election is still traumatizing all democrats the world over and we say that it must not be repeated in Osun state and must not be allowed to stand in Ekiti state. The South West PDP chairmen therefore said that, as a zone, we condemn the dangerous trend”.
“The evil activities of this regime against everybody in our dear country has led to a mass protest as shown by the decamping of notable APC leaders in the National Assembly and even some governors to other political parties in order to avoid being suffocated with the attitude of the demonic, despotic, intolerant and undemocratic leadership of APC. This clearly shows that Nigerians are tired of this repressive and retrogressive regime which is at variance with the democratic culture of Yoruba nation.”
