The Harmonised Vigilante group in Osun has reiterated its readiness to support security agencies, for the purpose of building a formidable security arrangement in Osun state and Nigeria at large.
The head of the group, Alhaji Rilwan Hussein (Yah Salam), in a chat with newsmen at his residence in Ede, Osun state, during a press conference organised as part of activities heralding the conferment of Chieftaincy title on him by Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, Timi of Edeland, on Monday.
Hussein, who is the National Vice President of Local Security groups in Nigeria, described the Chieftaincy title of Mayegun as a challenge for him to double efforts to improve security in his community and the country at large.
“I was not happy with the name they call Ede people when I came home in 2000. I decided to redeem the image of the town and I thank God today, Ede is no longer thieves, they are rather arresting thieves.
“I established the group to checkmate social vices and not for any pecuniary interest, I indeed appreciate the Chieftaincy title. I see it as a challenge and I will continue to do more.
Speaking, the Baba Kekere of Edeland, Alhaji Rasheed Olaolu, said the conferment of Mayegun of Edeland on Yah Salam, was in appreciation of his contribution to the stability of Edeland.
He said the title was specifically meant for a sustainer of peace, saying that the efforts of the vigilante group headed by Hussein has helped in establishing peace in the state and Nigeria in general.
“If the peace of a community would be sustained, the security of that community must be guaranteed. The efforts of Yah Salam has not only redeemed the image of Ede, it has enable us to sleep with two eyes closed.
The branch Manager of First Bank in Ede, Mr Banmure Abraham, commended the monarch for the Chieftaincy tittle, saying the impact of the vigilance group has been felt all-round the state.
He said the service of the group was required especially at this time when security has been the major problem in Nigeria.
