Saraki, APC Test Strength As House of Reps By-Election Holds

There was tension in Kwara State on Friday over the Oke-Ero, Isin, Ekiti and Irepodun House of Representatives by-election scheduled for Saturday.

The election is the first major poll that will be held in the state since the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and his political godson, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party.

It is being held to fill the vacuum created by the death of late lawmaker, Funke Adedoyin.

In a statement by its state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tunde Ashaolu, the PDP described attacks on its members as reprehensible, unwarranted and unjustifiable.

He said that a combined team of police and the Department of State Services invaded the residence of a PDP chieftain in Egosi community, Oke-Ero Local Government, Joseph Adeniyi, at about 2am on Friday.

Ashaolu said, “Chief Adeniyi narrowly escaped from the house but his son, who is a soldier was arrested and taken to unknown destination by the security officers.

“The security operatives also attacked the residences of some PDP stalwarts in Oke-Ero.”

However, the All Progressives Congress in a statement by its Chairman in the state, Bashir Bolarinwa, said the attack on the party’s candidate in the election, Mr Tunji Olawuyi, had exposed the PDP as a violent and desperate party.
