How Nigerian Army’s Bridge Construction Promise Will Unite Kuta, Ede Communities In Osun

Aside the economic prosperity that the completion of the age-long bridge that bounded Ede and Kuta communities in Osun state would midwife, this territorial connection would deepen the unity that has existed between the indigenes of these communities, Amiloaded has learnt.

Hitherto, work had commenced on the over 70 years old bridge but due to lack of sensitivity by government, it has been abandoned. But now, the bridge will be completed and commissioned for use. Thanks to the Nigerian Army under the leadership of Army Staff, lieutenant General Tukur Buratai who promised to deploy the agency’s engineers with a view to bringing it to completion.

To this end, the joys of the traditional rulers of Ede and Kuta now know no bound. The monarchs have hailed lieutenant General Buratai, for promising to complete the construction of an age-long bridge.

The monarchs who led the 12-member-engineering team of the Nigerian Army to the bridge at the boundary of Kuta and Ede on Friday, commended the army chief for his developmental move to further cement the relationship between the two communities.

Speaking with newsmen in his palace, His Royal Majesty, Oba Hammed Adekunle Makama Oyelude, Tegbosun 111, Olowu of Kuta land, said the construction of the over 70-year-old bridge, which linked the two communities, had been started by the forefathers of the two communities through contribution among themselves.

The monarch who disclosed that he had sent a compassionate appeal on behalf of the people of the two communities to the Nigerian Army, stated that the visit of the engineers from the military zone is a good omen.

He said the completion of the bridge will not only boost the economy of Ede and Kuta, but would also increase the Internally Generated Revenue of Osun state.

“If the bridge is done, the economy impact can not be over-emphasized. The IGR of the state will also improve because human and goods could be moved easily.

“Our forefathers that started the bridge knew the economy importance before embarking on contributions among themselves. We thank the Chief of Army Staff for the move to complete the bridge. Military are not only fighting insurgency, they are opening up access.

Also lauding the leadership of the Nigerian Army, the Timi of Ede land, His Royal Majesty, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, said the force has taken step to make ‘unforgettable’ history in the duo communities.

He assured that the bridge would not cause any conflict between the two towns, rather, it would further promote cordial relationship between them.

The monarch who explained that the bridge has been the boundary for Ede and Kuta, noted that it would be impossible to have land dispute because there is no land to fight over.

He lauded Olowu Kuta for using the relationship he enjoyed with the army chief to facilitate development that would be of benefit to the coming generation.

Meanwhile, a member-elect of the House of Representatives, to represent Iwo federal constituency, Mr. Amobi Yinusa, explained that several attempts have been made with series of letters written to the federal government since the administration of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, but all to no avail.

He commended Oba Olowu Kuta for his intervention, noting that the bridge would be a benefit for, not only Ede and Kuta, but all other communities in the area, including Iwo.
