The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), has attended the Osun State Council of Obas meeting amidst tension over who will preside over the meeting. …
Since the demise of Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the immediate past Ooni of Ile-Ife who was the chairman of the council till death, the Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran had presided in acting capacity.
The fear that Oba Aromolaran, who had claimed to be the substantive chairman may not vacate the seat for the newly installed Ooni sparked tension, it was learnt.
But sources inside the main hall of Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding, Osogbo, venue of the meeting, hinted that royal fathers and others at the venue were all apprehensive when Oba Aromolaran was about to commence the meeting when the Ooni had not arrived.
One of the sources said, “Oba Aromolaran had already occupied the seat meant for the chairman and this heightened the tension because everyone present knew that Ooni Ogunwusi was coming to the meeting.
“When the Ooni arrived, the atmosphere changed. His aides brought a personal white chair for him. That really made him special and his comportment was royal and unmatched”.
“When the meeting commenced, the tension was rising and it only subsided when Oba Aromolaran introduced himself as the Deputy chairman. Oba Aromolaran, when he was introducing himself , said he was the Deputy Chairman. It means he recognised Ooni as the head”.
