Iwo Grammar School, 1982 stanza, has held its 40th anniversary in Iwo, Osun State, AMILOADED reports.
The event was held on August 5 and 6, 2022.
In his address, the current chairman of the association, Alhaji M.A Akinyemi expressed gratitude to his colleagues for the unity that exists in their midst and hoped they would celebrate 100th anniversary.
“I appreciate all stakeholders who have played notable roles in the success of this reunion, Senior Prefect, Dr Wakeel Olabamiji Nasir, the 40th anniversary chairman and his team,” Akinyemi said.
On his part, Engr. Amos Kehinde, Chairman of the 40th anniversary committee said, “A lot had been achieved by rekindling the spirit of the class and reviving the class spirit is like renewing your youth. He mentioned that living amongst one’s people can be a blessing money cannot buy.”
He further appreciated every member of the set who contributed to the success of the program, to which he said, “living for the public is like living for eternity”.
The chairman of the occasion, Engr. Lanre Adeleke, in his speech, said the schools needed such projects.
He said, “Government alone can’t do all that are needed, which is why, projects like this should be executed by associations and individuals. Every interaction must lead to development.”
He further launched the 1982 special publication and fundraising saying that they need to come together to restructure the school play ground which was of major concern to him.
He promised to start work on the survey on the 8th of August.
Speaking on the lecture, ‘Becoming the Best Version of Yourself After Graduation’, the Guest Lecturer Professor Kayode Alao said the old students should help in reviving Nigeria as the hope for a sustainable future and development seems to be dwindling.
He cited instances of the good life enjoyed by students back in their days which no longer exists just as he admonished the wealthy to come home to develop the community.
The representative of the Oluwo of Iwo, Chief Asalu, congratulated the 1982 set saying such a gathering that old was not common.
He advised that politics, ethnicity and regions prejudices be kept far away from the association to roaster unity and rather focus on competence as a yard stick for any assignment.
Pastor Ayo Tijani, one of the old students association members, standing in the capacity of chairman of the occasion presented the gifts and awards to some of the teachers of the 1982 set who were present at the event and to some outstanding students of the school and some committee members.
The National President of the Association, Mr Gbenga James, urged the set to join forces with the national body to finish the fencing project of the school which had already started after he mentioned he was envious of them.
PA Onarinde, one of the old teachers reminisced on the past memories created and asked for the gathering to honour the late principal of the set and the classmates who are no more. He asked the to continue in the spirit of unity and good deeds.
The commissioning of the anniversary gift which was a block of 6 toilets in the school compound was done by the chairman of the occasion, Engr. Lanre Adeleke, CEO, Peculiar Constructions Nig LTD., flanked by the representative of the monarch, the 1982 set, members of staff of the school, and the students.
Some of the class mates present are Mrs Aderonke Christy Folawe Oladeinde (nee Olapade), Mr. Kehinde and many others.
Dignitaries at the event were the representative Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adéwálé Akanbi, past teachers and members of staff, current principal and students of Iwo Grammar School, among others.
