BREAKING: Austin Eguavoen Resigns As Super Eagles Coach

Augustine Eguavoen has resigned as the Interim Coach of the Nigeria national team.

This follows the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar after they were held to a 1-1 draw by eternal rivals Ghana at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday.

The former Enyimba gaffer was appointed to replace Gernot Rohr, who was sacked prior to the team’s departure to Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament where they got eliminated in the first round.

After Nigeria’s disappointing exit at the AFCON, Eguavoen had made public his decision to step down, but retained his position after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) agreed to discontinue with the plans to make Jose Peseiro coach of the national team

Meanwhile, reports suggest the 53-year-old will return to his role as NFF Technical Director, while it remains to be seen who takes over as Coach.
