The Manager of Achiever’s Microfinance Bank Limited, Osogbo, Osun State, Oluwaseun Owolabi, has been docked at a Magistrate’s Court in the state capital for allegedly defrauding his employers, AMILOADED reports.
The Police alleged that 28-year-old Owolabi, in December 2021, converted the sum of N974, 050 to his own use.
The defendant subsequently fled to Lagos State where he was reportedly arrested by the police.
The charge against him read that “Oluwaseun Owolabi, sometime in December 2021, at about 11a.m at Testing Ground area, Osogbo, did steal the sum of N974, 050 property of Achiever’s Microfinance Bank Limited.
“The defendant, being the manager of Achiever’s Microfinance Bank Limited, did fraudulently convert the sum of N974, 050 property of Achiever’s Microfinance Bank Limited, to your own use.”
Police prosecutor, Inspector Bose Shoyemi, informed the court that the defendant committed offences contrary to Section 383 and punishable under sections 390(9) and 390(7) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun, 2002.
Owolabi pleaded not guilty to the offences, while his counsel, Ayooluwa Adesina, prayed the court to admit the defendant to bail, saying that he would not jump bail.
Shoyemi objected to the bail application on the ground that Owolabi fled after allegedly defrauding the bank before being tracked down and arrested in Lagos.
Magistrate O. A. Daramola overruled the objection by the prosecution and granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must be responsible citizens who are residents within the court’s jurisdiction.
According to her, one of the sureties must be a house owner and must be ready to provide the documents of the property being presented
She said that the other surety must be a relative of the defendant and must furnish the court with relevant information.
The matter was adjourned till March 23 for hearing.
