Students Protest Over Makinde Moves To Rename LAUTECH

Students Union Government (SUG) of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso have protested against the decision of the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to rename the institution.

The SUG President, Anuoluwa Adeboye, and the Public Relations Officer, Gabriel Michael, in an open letter made available to newsmen Friday, said renaming the institution would do more harm than good to its image.

Daily Trust on Saturday reports that the governor had sent a bill to the state assembly on the proposed renaming of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) to Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso (LAU).

But the union said changing the name of the institution would negatively affect the goodwill, saying the strength already gathered by the name could all be forgotten.

It urged the governor to look inward and consider better recommendations on how the institution could progress.

  1. There nothing bad in changing the university to Lagoke Akintola University, this will make the university to offer more courses, and thus generate more funds for the institution. But I oppose using another name instead of Lagoke Akintola
