AMILOADED MEDIA HUB NEWS UPDATE

In the early hours of Friday, October 4, 2024, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, reportedly intervened in an alleged attempt by the Nigerian Police to take over the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) headquarters in a bid to seize sensitive electoral materials ahead of the upcoming local government election. The operation was allegedly led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations).

The incident occurred around 1 AM when a group of policemen allegedly tried to scale the gates and break into the strong room of the Commission, where the materials were stored. These materials were intended for the local government election scheduled to take place on Saturday.

The attempt was thwarted when security personnel at the scene noticed the activities and quickly alerted key officers of RSIEC and relevant government officials. They, in turn, informed Governor Fubara of the situation.

In response, Governor Fubara acted swiftly, leading a delegation that included top government officials, lawmakers from both the National Assembly and the Rivers State House of Assembly, along with political stakeholders and other leaders, to the RSIEC facility.

The Governor’s timely intervention prevented the removal of the materials, ensuring that the planned election could proceed as scheduled.
