Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has threatened to direct his lawyers to sue a media director of Osun state All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr Kolawole Olabisi for Five Billion Naira as damages over alleged defamatory statement issued.
This was contained in a statement issued by Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to Gov Adeleke on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the APC director had allegedly accused the Governor of complicity in a viral recording by a supposed PDP chieftain who issued an alleged threat to bomb the state electoral commission and kill top officials of the commission.
The APC director also reportedly call for the investigation and prosecution of leading leaders of the PDP including Governor Adeleke for allegedly directing the issuance of the recording by the unnamed PDP Chieftain.
The State Governor described as irresponsible the defamatory allegations by the APC director, asking him to retract the baseless and unfounded allegations or face legal action.
“The allegation is reprehensible, baseless and defamatory. Mr Governor has ordered his lawyers to review the situation and demand retraction as the Governor did not and has not in any way planned or plot any attack on either INEC or any electoral official.
“Upon failure to retract the offensive publication, the state director faces a potential libel suit with a demand for five billion naira damages. This deliberate falsehood will have consequences”, the statement noted.
“Ever since the Edo election, many operatives of Osun APC have been boasting across media platforms to violently rig 2026 governorship elections. We have all the clips of threats and vows to snatch 2026 ballots at all costs.
“As a populist and performing leader, Governor Adeleke is however not bothered by those depressive rantings as the Osun PDP possesses electoral deterrence alongside being solidly on ground with the enhanced backing of the people of Osun State.
“As much as we understand that Governor Adeleke’s superlative performance is driving many Osun APC leaders crazy, it is the height of insensitivity and irresponsibility to level such grievous allegations against a state Governor widely known as a man of peace across party lines.
“Governor Adeleke has therefore resolved to legally pursue this grave accusation. Fake news will not go without consequences”
AMILOADED had earlier reported that the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) accused the state Governor Ademola Adeleke of complicity and maximum desperation about the 2026 governorship election which is the reason the acclaimed Chief Security Officer of the state is yet to condemn a video that has gone viral and suspected to have been sent out by one of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains in the state to burn down INEC office.
In the statement issued on Wednesday by the Osun State APC Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, noted that it was bizarre that close to one week that the video message has gone viral, neither Governor Adeleke nor the leadership of the ruling party, has deemed it fit to condemn the issue which is a good ground to suspect the complicity of the governor and his cohorts in the unsavoury development.
The state APC spokesman who tasked the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the matter with a view to bringing to book whoever might be behind the devilish plan to spill the blood of the innocent people because of elections hinted that it requires an accelerated approach in order to serve as a deterrent to similar enemies of peace who don’t believe that in a democratic election, a winner and a loser must emerge.
He lampooned whoever might be hiding under the cover of the social media in the name of politics to disturb the public peace of the state.
Olabisi wondered why such defeatist plan should be emanating from any of the members of the PDP in Osun State if truly their governor and the party are popular in the state.
In the words of the Osun State APC Director of Media and Information: “It should be expressly registered in the dictionary of the PDP leaders and governor in the state that there is no permanent champion and that what is permanent in life arrangement is change itself.
“Why is Governor Adeleke and his co-travellers afraid of losing the election when it was apparent that it was a party that lost to the PDP and the heavens did not fall? In a similar manner, when Governor Adeleke loses the forthcoming governorship election, the heavens would also not cave in?
“It is worthwhile to remind the statutory security agencies in the state that they are too placid with the issue of the plans of the anonymous PDP chieftain to cause maximum cataclysm in the state.
“If the PDP promoters of violence should be allowed to act according to their threat, it would be on record that a clarion call was earlier made to the security agencies in this regard. Prevention is far, far better than cure”, Olabisi stated.
