Osun Lawmaker, Oderinwale, Empowers 500 Students With Scholarships, Educational Materials

A member of the Osun State House of Assembly, representing Aiyedire State Constituency, Hon. Elisha Akinyemi Oderinwale, on Thursday, empowered over 500 students with writing materials and scholarships to support their academic performance and nurture future leaders.

The lawmaker’s back-to-school initiative, held at Ileogbo Townhall, have in attendance, students from various communities, including Ileogbo, Kuta, Oluponna, and Onigangan.

The event drew a diverse audience, including traditional leaders, political stakeholders, educators, and other community members.

Speaking at the event, the lawmaker, ably represented by his wife, Mrs. Oyinkansola Oderinwale, commended the students and teachers for working in synergy to ensure the success of the second edition of the annual summer coaching lessons.

She encouraged the students to be self-determined, diligent, and disciplined in order to achieve the kind of future they desire, and to start building themselves now.

According to her, “You can’t feature in the future, you didn’t picture, I encourage you to start building yourself now, I want to encourage to to help yourself by putting in the required hardwork, take your education very serious, be diligent in your studies”

“For you to be distinct, you need to be self-determined, be diligence, and be discipline in all you do, do away with peer pressure, social vices and be an ambassador of good character and noble choices”, she stated.

Mrs. Oyinkansola added that Hon. Oderinwale is always passionate about seeing the pupils of Ayedire succeed and become scholars, which is why he has consistently organized summer lessons.

Also speaking at the event, the Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Federal College of Education, Iwo, Dr. Olusegun Lana, who delivered a lecture on the effects of social media on students’ productivity, said social media is useful but can also be a source of distraction against students’ productivity.

Dr. Olusegun urged students to utilize social media for information, online tutorials, and content that can add value to them and facilitate their learning.

He also warned students against becoming addicted to entertainment content predominant on social media, so that they can remain focused on their studies and excel.

In his own words, the Chairman of the planning committee of the summer coaching, Comrade Olaniyi Rasaq, appreciated Honorable Oderinwale for his kind gesture towards the students and affirmed that he fulfilled the promises made to the students during the first edition in 2023.

According to him, the second edition of the educational intervention was an improved one, which lasted for four weeks across four centers in Ayedire local government, with over 500 students benefited.

Comrade Olaniyi added that apart from students whose schools are in Ayedire local government, students from Sango Otta in Ogun state, Honesty Group of Schools, Baptist High School Iwo, and Federal Girls College Ejigbo, among others, benefited from Honorable Oderinwale’s educational intervention.

At the end of the event, the students expressed their gratitude to the lawmaker and his team for making their educational development a top priority and for keeping his pledges to support their academic growth.
