…..condemn Osun assembly’s irresponsibility in addressing petitions’

A civil society group, The Osun Masterminds, has raised concerns over the haphazard approach to road construction by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration in Osun, AMILOADED reports.

While commending the ongoing efforts of the Osun government to revolutionize road construction in the state, the group expressed concerns that in Osogbo, motorists are struggling to move around due to poorly planned road blockages at the ongoing construction sites, said it has contributed to the high cost of transportation, and become a nightmare for many Osun residents.

The group made this statement at a press conference addressed by its Executive Director, Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Saturday. They called on the Osun State Government to review the work plans of the contractors currently executing road construction projects to ensure that the ongoing work does not cause undue hardship to the public.

Prof. Oyedokun-Alli urged the Osun government to ensure quality work across all ongoing construction projects, noting that the current difficulties faced by commuters should not be due to poor project delivery that could become a future issue.

He also commended the Adeleke administration for revolutionizing agriculture through the distribution of tractors and farm inputs to farmers in the state and advised the government to develop a comprehensive policy framework for quality service delivery.

However, the group director condemned in strong terms the irresponsibility of the Osun State House of Assembly in managing and responding to petitions. Emphasizing that multiple petitions have been submitted to the assembly, he urged them to fulfill their responsibilities.

Prof. Oyedokun-Alli also called on President Tinubu to listen to Nigerians and address the daily hardships faced by citizens.

According to him, “We have keenly followed the emerging trends in the petroleum industry, especially as concerns product pricing. Consequent upon the seeming deregulation of the downstream sector through the removal of fuel subsidy, the petroleum market seems to have gone haywire, with marketers forcing arbitrary prices on helpless citizens, through artificial, man-made product scarcity.

“Suffice it to say that the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu, having removed fuel subsidy, has unfortunately failed to implement palliative measures speedily. The slow implementation of palliative policies on one hand and the cruel pricing template of petroleum marketers on the other hand, ordinary citizens are under such immense pressure as they have never seen all their lives.

“We call on President Bola Tinubu to immediately launch efforts to rein in the petroleum industry cabal that has held Nigerians at the jugular for far too long.”

“Most of the time, the inflation experienced and high cost of goods are man-made with the intent for maximum profit possible but this does not make good citizens. At a time like this, empathy should be our watchword and the true essence of being our brother and sister’s keeper.

“True love for the country entails loyalty and commitment to the common good and that should be paramount in all we do if truly we all want to make Nigeria our place of pride and the envy of all nations.”
