Osun APC Assures Members of Fair Democratic Selection Process for Local Government Elections, Unveils Guidelines

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun has assured its members of a fair democratic process in selecting candidates for the local government elections.

This assurance was conveyed in a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Comr. Wole Adunola, on Thursday.

The party has also unveiled guidelines for members intending to vie for councillorship and chairmanship positions.

According to the statement, the template was developed at an expanded State working committee of the party which had in attendance major party stakeholders and chieftains of the party across the state.

The guidelines is part of effort by the leadership of the party in the state under the chairmanship of, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, to enrich local governance inline with the developmental strides of President Bola Ahmed led federal government of Nigeria, who had taken bold steps to encourage local governance through the instrumentality of the law.

The recent developments within the Osun APC are truly significant for the upcoming local government elections to be conducted by OSSIEC.

The party leadership have decided to have a direct primaries for councillors and a delegate system for the Chairmanship seats. This reflects a commitment to inclusivity and fairness.

This strategy ensures that all aspiring members have an equal opportunity to participate in the electoral process without any form of imposition.

Part of the statement reads, “The sales of forms for Expression of Interest and Nomination forms have commenced at the state party Secretariat in Osogbo., the Osun APC is actively encouraging enthusiastic members to step forward and engage in the democratic process.

“The leadership of the party believes this approach would not only fosters transparency but also promotes a vibrant and participatory local governance system within Osun State.

The highlights of the Guildlines as as follows:

1) Notification of OSIEC 29th July, 2024 ;

2) Sales and submission of notification of forms 7th_13th Auguat 2024;

3) Screening of candidates and publication of screening results 13th_16th August 2024;

4) Screening of appeals 17th_18th August 2024;

5) Final determination of appeals and publication of screened candidates by SWC 19th Auguat 2024;

6) Election of 5 delegates per ward 19th august 2024;

7) Primary election: 20th August 2024;

8) Elections Appeals 21st Auguat 2024;

9) SWC Ratification and submission to OSIEC 22nd August 2024

“Besides members of the state working committee of the party, other chieftains and leaders who were part of the meeting were prominent figures like Dr. Sen. Ajibola Basiru ( the National Secretary,APC) , Former Deputy Governors Chief Mrs Titilayo Ponle,H.E Benedict Alabi, Rt Hon Timothy Owoeye,Oluomo Sunday Akeere,Hon Adebayo Adeleke, Chief Kunle Odeyemi, Chief Ajao and host of others.”
