Distribution of Palliatives Can Only Help in the Short Term – Osun Residents

AMILOADED MEDIA HUB NEWS UPDATE

… ‘I didn’t know the FG is distributing palliatives’

Residents of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, have said that the distribution of palliatives by the Federal Government to cushion the effects of economic hardship will have a minimal impact on vulnerable citizens, who are the intended beneficiaries.

In an interview with AMILOADED MEDIA on Monday, a military officer, Brown Audu, stated that the FG’s palliatives being distributed to Nigerians can only help for a short period, as the distribution will not be continuous.

While commenting on the approved new minimum wage, Officer Audu noted that the increment will help, as prices of goods in the market are high. He urged citizens to be careful when electing people to represent them at both the state and federal levels.

Also speaking, a bus driver, simply identified as Oluwatobi, said he is not aware that the FG is distributing palliatives to Nigerians, and he is unsure of anything called palliatives.

According to him, “The increase in minimum wage will assist us partially because when you’re working and your salary has been increased, it will definitely have an impact everywhere.”

A cyclist, Abisoye Ibrahim, called on the government to have mercy on the masses as economic hardship continues to bite harder.

Ibrahim stated that things are really expensive, and the money being made is not sufficient to cater to basic needs. He added that the hardship has caused so much misunderstanding among couples.

The cyclist also mentioned that the minimum wage increment is not enough to meet all the needs of workers, noting that fuel is now being sold at N900 per liter. He appealed to the Federal Government to look into the situation and help the people.

Also reacting, a Point of Sale (POS) operator, who did not want his name mentioned, said the palliatives have not reached him. He accused the government of not doing enough to include ordinary youths in their plans, as there are no jobs and it is hard to survive, with one Congo of beans now costing N5000.

He encouraged his fellow youths to speak up for themselves and participate in government policies to pave the way for their future.
