Return Our Property Or Face Court Action – NURTW Tells Osun Park Managers

Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Osun State have called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to order the State Transport Management System, OSTMS, to return its property in its hold.

It would be recalled that the Adeleke’s administration after its inauguration in 2022 banned the union activities and appointed member into transport management system under the control of the Ministry of Transportation in the State.

Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo on Thursday, acting Chairman of NURTW in the State Kazeem Oyewale, disclosed that since the proscription of its activities, the newly inaugurated park managers have been operating from its State Secretariat built with it money.

He added that the park managers have seized all vehicles belonging to the union illegally, urging Gov Adeleke to intervene with a view to resolving the issue amicably.

“Our State Council Secretariat was presently occupied by the government agency called (OSTMS) the Secretariat and which was built with union funds during the administration of the former State Chairman Late Alhaji Adegboyega Tomori Olugbodi and the then State Secretary Late Comrade Akin James (JP) and also all various branches Union vehicles are in their possession for it was enshrine in our Union Constitution in Article 29: Section 1, Sub-Section II. That, “All properties acquired by and for the Union in whosoever custody and of whatever nature, belongs to the Union.”

“It is in view of this we are begging the State Governor to help us direct the members of the (OSTMS) to vacate our State Secretariat for they have been stealing the Union properties in the secretariat as they alleged each other. Most of our vehicles over a hundred is also in the their possession.

“We would be compelled to approach a court of law to retrieve our property if all efforts to resolve the issue is not successful”, he said.

He also denounced claims that the union is creating crisis within the OSTMS in the state to antagonize the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, saying both members of OSTMS and NURTW are like brothers, who should not be turned into enemy for belonging to different groups.

“The members of OSTMS and NURTW in the State are brothers of different age group, religious background and different political affiliation typical of a setting of democratic system. This diversity we believe should be our pride and strength as a State and Nation at large, than causing hatred and fight among brothers.

“We have observed of recent needless attacks, harassment, intimidation and threat to lives of our members by some of the members of (OSTMS) in our various parks in the State. Some of our members are being ejected from their park where they eke their daily living.

“All these we believe are efforts capable of reenacting bloody war in the State if it is not brought to your attention for immediate intervention sir”, he added.
