The Osun State Government through the Osun Health Insurance Agency (OSHIA) has kicked off the enrolment of all persons living with disabilities (PWDs) resident in the state under the Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS).
The initiative, which is in line with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s directive, aims to provide free and qualitative healthcare services to all eligible residents with disabilities across the state.
Dr. Razaq Akindele, the Executive Secretary of the Osun Health Insurance Agency, while speaking at the programme’s launch emphasised that it seeks to provide healthcare for the less privileged in the society, especially PWDs because of their health condition.
According to Akindele, the agency will conduct clinical examinations to identify the specific needs of each individual.
The agency’s boss added that In addition to healthcare coverage, the initiative will also provide essential aids such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, visual aids, and crutches, depending on the beneficiaries’ requirements.
Akindele further noted that registration for the programme will begin simultaneously across the 30 local government areas of the state, with the service being at no cost for the beneficiaries.
The Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Osun State Chapter, Stephen Oluwafemi, lauded the initiative, and expressed gratitude to Governor Adeleke for his commitment to improving the lives of people with disabilities.
Acknowledging that good and affordable healthcare is fundamental to the overall well-being of the PWDs, Oluwafemi showed optimism about the impact the programme will have in the lives of the PWDs, especially with the current economic hardship.
He encouraged people living with disabilities in the state to take advantage of the free registration and healthcare services, emphasising that “health is wealth.”
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Musiliu Yusuf, a bilateral amputee, shared his joy at the prospect of receiving a wheelchair through the programme.
He described the initiative as exceptional and urged others with disabilities to register and benefit from the state’s support.
Yusuf praised Governor Adeleke’s administration and offered prayers for its continued success.
