IWD: Bamidele Salam Donates N40m For Women Empowerment In Osun Constituency

The lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Bamidele Salam, has donated N40 million for the launching of the fourth edition of Ajoje Microcredit Scheme for women in his constituency in Osun State.

Salam, who is the Chairman of the House of Representatives Public Account Committee, made the donation at the event held in Ede, Osun State, in commemoration of the 2024 International Women’s Day on Friday.

Speaking at the event aimed to boost local businesses in the constituency, Salam, who is facilitator of the programme, said the Ajoje Women Microcredit Scheme was established for the benefit of the women in the constituency.

The lawmaker reiterated that the scheme would help the women to get funds for their businesses and pay back without interest.

“The Ajoje grant is for 600 women but we’re extending the Ajoje microcredit for the benefit to over 5000 women across the four local governments to get loans with zero interest. This is to ensure that they get more opportunities to funds to boost their businesses,” he said.

Salam further called for more policies that will enable women get opportunities to be in high positions and contribute to the development of the country.

Salam added, “I’m an advocate of women participation in governance but I believe it’s a process and we are getting there.

“I am hopeful with the collaboration that’s ongoing in the National Assembly, we will achieve this in no distant time. We should just ensure we’re moving.”

Also speaking at the event, the wife of Osun State Governor, Mrs Titilola Adeleke, thanked Salam for his donation to the scheme and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity.

The Osun First Lady said, “The N40 million given to the women today is to boost their businesses, get more goods and make more profit which will enable them to take good care of their families.

“I enjoin them to use the money strictly for their business so as to impact positively on their lives. I commend the lawmaker for celebrating the women this way. This is fantastic.”

On their parts, beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the lawmaker and the organisers of the scheme.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of cheques to the representatives of the four local governments.

Business owners and female entrepreneurs in each of the four local government got N10 million.
