UNIOSUN: Prof. Siyan Oyeweso Appointed As Provost Of Post-Graduate College

Professor Siyan Oyeweso, a renowned history professor from the College of Humanities and Culture, has been named the acting provost of the Postgraduate College by Vice-Chancellor Professor ‘Ayo Clement Adebooye.

The University’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, officially confirmed Professor Oyeweso’s appointment on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, through a statement made available to AMILOADED NEWS AGENCY.

“Professor Oyeweso will report to the Vice-Chancellor for the administration of Postgraduate studies in the University,” the announcement reads. His appointment will be effective as of this Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Professor Oyeweso is a highly renowned history professor who received his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Ife (now known as Obafemi Awolowo University) after graduating with a Second Class (Upper Division).

“Professor Oyeweso has served the University in various key roles. He notably held positions such as the Pioneer Provost of the College of Humanities and Culture, Ikire Campus; the Pioneer Director of UNIOSUN Business School; the Pioneer Chairman of the Committee of Provosts, Deans, and Directors; Director, Centre for Human Resource Development and Life-Long Learning; Director of Advancement among others.

“Professor Oyeweso is a Fellow of the Historical Society of Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Academy of Letters. His outstanding academic achievements and contributions to the field have earned him a prestigious reputation within the global academic community. Renowned for his eloquence and versatility in public speaking, he has received several national and international awards, research grants, establishing himself as a leading authority on Nigerian history, politics, religion, and culture, as evidenced by his numerous publications since 1986,” Adesoji added.
