A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Dotun Babayemi, has doled out the sum of N10 million to empower petty traders in the Iwo Local Government Area of the state.

Recall that Babayemi launched the Atunto Osun Cooperative Society on December 8, 2023, which empowered farmers, artisans, traders and small scale entrepreneurs.

The PDP Chieftain pledged at the opening to double any contributions made by members of the cooperative.

The PDP leader, while speaking at the Wednesday cheque presentation to beneficiaries, stated that the gesture was intended to help small business owners at the grassroots level grow their operations.

According to Babayemi, the fundamental purpose of the cooperative was to give small company owners in every local government region a starting point for economic development.

“This is not something I spearheaded; rather, it is something that originated at the local level.

“They’re looking for a platform to voice their opinions. He stated, “They desire a channel through which they can pursue their improvement.

According to Babayemi, the funds that would be given to the cooperative’s small merchants would be used to grow their operations. She also emphasized the significance of grassroots economic growth.

Regarding the current state of the nation’s economy, Babayemi asked Nigerians to keep praying for wisdom to guide those in authority.

He said with prayers and cooperation of Nigerians with the government, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.

He added that Nigeria would overcome its difficulties if its citizens prayed and worked with the government.

The cooperative society’s President-General, Mr. Emmanuel Omoye, stated in his speech that the N10 million was divided among the cooperators.

According to Omoye, the money was intended to support the small merchants in light of the current state of the nation’s economy.
He clarified that it is a mutually assured cooperative and that in order for members to gain benefits, they must have been together for 90 days.

However, some of the recipients thanked Babayemi for the kindness, saying it would greatly help their businesses.
