20-Yr-Old Man Dies After Jumping Into Well In Lagos

Officials of the Lagos State Fire Service have recovered the body of a 20-year-old man, Sodiq Olorunleye, who jumped into an abandoned well in the Shasha area of the state.

The body was brought out several hours after he jumped into the well located in front of a mosque.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, shortly after worshippers finished their morning prayers in the mosque.

According to witnesses, the deceased never showed any signs of suicide or frustration, leaving those in the neighborhood wondering what must have caused it.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.

Hundeyin said the incident was reported at Shasha police station by the owner of Shamseedeen mosque on Taiwo close, Shasha around 7pm same day.

He said the owner of the mosque alleged that the deceased jumped into an abandoned well in front of the mosque and that efforts to rescue him by the neighbours proved abortive

“The lifeless body of the victim was brought out around 12 noon by officials of the state fire service,” the PPRO stated.

“A team of detectives were dispatched to the scene where it was discovered that the corpse had already been prepared for burial according to Islamic rites. However, investigation is ongoing.”
