On January 15, 2024, the thrilling Otunba Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke 4th Memorial Cup final football match between Ilesha West LG and Ifelodun LG at the Osogbo Township stadium, Osogbo, came to an end.
The match, which took place at the Osogbo Township Stadium, ended in a penalty kick win for the Ifelodun LG football team, earning them a one million naira grand prize.
The annual event Sponsored by Representative Bamidele salam kicked off on the 17th of December 2023.
The football competition was organized for Grassroot Football teams across the 30 local government and The area office of the state.
The event was graced by the Governor of the state, senator Ademola Adeleke, Deputy Governor prince Kola Adewusi, Speaker of Osun house of assembly Adewale Egbedun, Commissioners, Senators and dignitaries from every shore of the state.
The Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Bamidele salam for always fufiling his promise to always organise this event in honour of the 1st Governor of the state, late Otunba Adetunji Adeleke.
In his words, he said, I thank everyone that has come to witness this event and i pray that all will be well with you”
“I and the Deputy Governor who is in charge of sport are planning to give the stadium a beffiting look so that our sport can improve in all aspect” we also want you all to know that Osun state has improved in different areas; like culture and tourism, Entertainment etc.
Speaking with Newsmen, Honourable Bamidele Salam said, “This is not the 1st edition. The main aim is to provide a platform for our young stars to display their skills, Football is a global business that is why we are trying to provide opportunities for the youth to be able to tap into the world global businessapart from building a culture of healthy competition amongst our youths from all local government in Osun state.
Speaking futher, Bamidele salam said, “The country has very active youths of 130million so we need to build the youths in every aspect we find them because the youth carry the passion, zeal, energy and creativity to build a great nation. So in every aspect the youth is involved, every government or person with goodwill must be involved so that we can annex their potential and give them opportunities they never had”
Mr Tope Taiwo a player of Ifelodun LG(winner os the football competition) said, “I am excited we won the competition and i appreciate the organisers to keep doing this to encourage the younger generation.
