Provide Additional Assistance In Areas Of Washing And Sensitization, Adeleke’s Aide Urges Red Cross Society

AMILOADED MEDIA HUB NEWS UPDATE

Dr. Akindele Adekunle has urged the Red Cross Society to provide additional assistance to Osun State in the areas of washing and sensitization.

Adekunle expressed gratitude to all those contributing to the sensitization process while revealing that conversations had focused on the difficulties in providing clean water supplies and primary health facilities.

The call was made on Monday, December 11, 2023, during a meeting at the public health emergency facility in Abeere, Osogbo, by the governor’s special adviser on health, Akindele.

Additionally, it was discovered that the Osun State Public Health Emergency Center coordinated the preparation of an epidemiological report on the cholera outbreak in two local governments, Oridale and Isokan.

Attendees at the meeting included representatives from the World Health Organization, UNICEF, Redcross Society, and government agencies.

Dr. Isiaka Adekunle gave the opening remarks, noting that cholera is a deadly disease that can be easily controlled.

He thanked all non-governmental organizations for their participation and said that she was excited to discuss health delivery that will benefit the general public.

The state epidemiologist, Dr. Omolola Adeagbo, provided an overview of the progress made thus far.

She went on to say that the state was experiencing a cholera outbreak, which is why the conference was called.

We have 105 cases that have been fully confirmed by epidemiology and laboratory research.

She said, “There were a total of 11 probable cases, and 8 of those 11 passed away before confirmation.”.

Speaking further, Mr. Olopade Sanya, Chairman of Redcross Society (Osun Chapter), stated: “We are prepared to partner with the state and we truly applaud the government for taking action on health concerns. We also know that the government cannot do it alone.

He continued, “We will see what we can do at the state level and also involve both national and international. We also know that the state needs enough resources.”

Furthermore, UNICEF representative Dr. Gbenga Oyebode underlined, saying, ‘We have been looking for collaboration with the government and we are glad the government called for help because cholera is a disease that can be managed’.

The number of those who passed away before confirmation breaks my heart, he sadly noted.

In order to raise awareness, Dr. Gbenga tasked the government with working with the media to produce a jingle.

‘I will also want the SA to the governor on health to help on the field,” he said. UNICEF will assist as well, I assure you.

In his final remarks, Public Health Director, Dr. Akeem Babatunde stated, “We need our supporters’ assistance since the government cannot handle this task alone. Although we are grateful that you could come, we really need your complete support.
