Osun Govt, Red Cross Partners to Eradicate Cholera and Other Diseases

The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Osun state Branch has worked out modalities to partner with the State Government in its effort to eradicate Cholera outbreak and other diseases in the State.

This was disclosed at an EOC meeting and bilateral discussion between the officials of the Ministry of Health led by the Special Adviser on Public Health to the Governor, Dr Akindele Adekunle and contingent of Nigerian Red Cross Society and other Partners

Dr Akindele acknowledged and appreciated the support of the Organisation in the past especially in the recent Diphtheria Disease rescue Operation in the State and others activities, he said the Government is ready to partner with the organization in eradicating Cholera and other diseases in the state. He further stated that without such support from Humanitarian Organisations like Red Cross, the Government will have too much burden on itself in ensuring effective eradication of those diseases.

“I sincerely want to thank your organisation for coming on board to partner with us in eradicating Diphtheria and cholera in our state.”

The Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Osun State Branch, Elder Sanya Olopade applauded the Osun State government for the commendable health intervention they’ve embark on in the state, thereby rating Osun government high in their performance indicator of the health sector. He noted that Red Cross as an Auxiliary to the Government is always ready to partner with the Government in the areas of needs and health of people.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Isiaka Adekunle also used the medium to highlight some of the factors that contribute to the disease which includes Open dumping sites, Open defecation and unprotected sources of water among others.

Other partners present at the EOC meeting are representative of WHO, UNICEF, RUWESA.
