AMILOADED MEDIA HUB NEWS UPDATE

The Osun State University will hold its 12th and 13th convocation ceremony for the award of first degree and postgraduate between Friday, September 22, and Thursday, September 28, 2023, AMILOADED reports.

The convocation holding physically and virtually commenced on Friday with a press conference at the university main campus in Osogbo, Osun State.

Speaking at the press conference the university Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye, said a total of 4,210 degrees and Diplomas will be awarded at the event.

The degrees, according to the VC, include First Degrees, 3,959; Postgraduate Diploma, 9; Master Degrees, 229; Doctoral Degrees, 13.

Adebooye said, “The breakdown of the various degrees and diploma in terms of class of degrees is as follows:

“First-Class: 89; Second Class (Upper Division): 1,326; Second Class (Lower Division): 1,818; Third Class: 470; Pass: 5.”

The Vice-Chancellor added, “This year, we shall be combining our 12th and 13th series of the ceremony. The reason for this is our decision to stop the tradition of deferring graduation ceremonies till the following year and academic session.

“We changed this tradition because technology has made both the conduct of examination and assessment of students easier, thus leading to faster actions on computation of examination grades and computation of final results. Even with high-tech, if our staff fail to cooperate and buy into our vision, the plan will not work.

“Therefore, I commend my colleagues for believing in the Management and for working hard to make this dream a reality. ‘It often seems impossible until it is done’, said Nelson Mandela. By the grace of God, we have broken the jinx, henceforth, we shall be graduating our students every September that follows their final examinations in July of the same year.

“For this year, therefore, we are graduating our final year students for the 2021/2022 academic session that ended in July, 2021 and our final year students for 2022/2023 academic session just completed in July 2023. We have mapped out a cluster of activities for the combined ceremonies to span through 22nd to 28th September, 2023.”
