A group, the Osun Democrats for Democracy (ODD), has condemned an alleged attempt by some chieftains of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun State to induce civil servants with N50 million to destabilise the state’s public service, AMILOADED reports.

The ODD said this in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Felicia Oyinlade, on Monday.

The statement read, “The Osun Democrats for Democracy (ODD) strongly condemn the recent attempt of the Osun All Progressive Congress (APC), to throw the state’s civil service into turmoil.

“The reported offer of Fifty million naira (#50,000,000) financial inducement to civil servants is not only reprehensible but also undermines the interests of the Osun people.

“We believe that the opposition party should focus on ensuring the government fulfills its campaign promises and working together toward good governance rather than resorting to divisive and manipulative tactics.

“A newspaper report had on Sunday published a report that the APC team, led by a former Commissioner, had reached out to labor leaders to explore the development in breaking the support enjoyed by the Adeleke administration.

The report said the meetings that were held in two different locations in Osogbo, the state capital, the APC team tried to persuade labour leaders to help destabilize the state’s public service.

“The report went further to indicate that a former Commissioner who is an ally of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, tabled a bribe of N50 million to persuade them, which according to the source, was flatly rejected.

“It is disheartening to witness the desperation of the APC in their attempt to turn the people against the government. This recent move clearly demonstrates that the Osun APC is more interested in advancing its selfish agenda than addressing the needs and aspirations of the Osun people.

“Instead of engaging in constructive dialogue and working together to foster development and progress, they have chosen to sow discord and disrupt the functioning of the civil service.

“The Osun Democrats for Democracy firmly believes that good governance is the foundation of a prosperous society. APC’s recent actions have demonstrated a blatant disregard for the welfare of the Osun people.
“Instead of working together with the government towards ensuring the delivery of good governance, the APC has resorted to bitter politics and divisive tactics, attempting to turn the people against the government.”

The group stated that the people of Osun State elected Governor Ademola Adeleke based on his promises to ensure good governance and uplift the state, adding that resorting to financial inducements to disrupt the civil service undermines the essence of democracy and good governance.

It further called on the Osun State House of Assembly to carry out an investigation on the report.

Commending the civil servants in Osun State, the ODD said, “In the face of the APC’s manipulative tactics, we commend the Labour Leaders in Osun State for their unwavering dedication to the welfare of the state’s workers.

“By rejecting the financial inducement offered, they have demonstrated their commitment to upholding the principles of fairness and justice. Their refusal to be used as pawns in a political game is a testament to their integrity and their focus on the interests of the workers they represent.

“The recent actions by the Labour Leaders have reaffirmed the immense support of the state workers for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration. Their refusal to be swayed by the divisive tactics of the opposition party demonstrates that the people recognize and appreciate the efforts of the government to improve their lives and create a better future for the state.

“We also call on all citizens to remain vigilant, reject divisive politics, and work together towards a better future for Osun State.”
