HELSI Organizes Programme To Mark Sickle Cell Day In Osun

A non-governmental organization, Heritage Life Support Initiatives (HELSI) has organized different programmes to mark 2023 World Sickle Cell Day in Osun, AMILOADED reports

According to the organizer, Sickle Cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that causes ‘sickle’ shaped red blood cells that can stick together, blocking the flow of blood and oxygen from reaching all parts of the body, while June 19 is observed annually as “World Sickle Day”. The Organizer noted that HELSI goal is to end Sickle Cell Disease through their initiative, ‘Know Your Genotype’ (KYG).

Speaking with AMILOADED Correspondent, the founder affirmed that to mark this year 2023 “sickle cell day” HELSI carried different programmes, such as; genotype screenings through their project called “Know Your Genotype” Initiative(KYGI), while kits were donated by Partec Healthcare Ltd – Sysmex Company for the exercise.

Others activities includes; Capacity development on Sickle Cell Disease (SCD)Virtual& Physical trainings, Awareness campaigns and Sensitizations in schools,religious centers and communities, Inauguration of KYG champions, giving supports to the initiative warriors ,free genotype screening and Counselling among others.

It was gathered that 10,000 participants including children,youth,women and persons living with disabilities are the beneficiaries of the programme. Communities that benefitted include: oba-oke,Ede,osogbo.

However, the initiative appreciate, Mr Bitrust Badung, Partec Healthcare Ltd, Sysmex Company, Mr Niyi& Hajia Folahan Ajetomobi, HELSI&Partners, for their support towards the 2023 Sickle Cell Day programme.
