Igbajo Youth, Women Protest Alleged Enthronement Of king, Call For Adeleke’s Intervention

IGBAJO YOUTH & WOMEN DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE (IYWDI) in conjunction with the Coalition of Youth Voice Movement/ End SARS Igbajo chapter, on Monday, staged a peaceful protest against the ex-governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, for allegedly enthroning a king over the people of Igbajo, AMILOADED reports.

The protest which started from the front of the INEC office in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, to the Osun State Government Secretariat in Osogbo kicked off at 11 am as both young and old residents of the community held plan cards full of their agitations.

The leader of the Coalition of Youth Voice Movement, Osun State, Comrade Adebisi Oluwaseun Emmanuel, disclosed that the kingship case had been in the court for a year and half, saying Adegboyega Famodun allegedly imposed by the former governor, announced himself as the king without the court announcing him with the help of the past government.

He said, “In the year 2021,we learnt that the people of Igbajo went to court based on the issue If the kingship in the land. But on the day they were supposed to give the judgement,the judge was not around to give the judgement.

“But instead for prince Famodun to wait for the court Clark to give them another date in which they will come to the court, he left the court that day and with the power of the former governor of Osun State announced himself as the king.

“And all we can see is that within two, three days, they imposed him. The former Government used their power and imposed him on the rightfully owner of the throne of Owa, Igbajo”.

Adebisi who led the protest solicited for Intervention of the current Osun state Governor, Ademola Adeleke, saying the princes and the elders in Igbajo were also part of the movement.

One of the elders, Chief Aderemi Adeife Latilo, called the help of Governor Adeleke, saying Oyetola imposed Famodun on them without following the kingship traditional right of the land.

Adeife pleaded to the governor to utilise a legal measure on the issue to avoid chaos in the land.

Adeleke who was represented by his duputy, Kola Adewusi, appreciated the people for the peaceful protest instead of causing chaos in the land.

He assured of the state government’s intervention over the kingship issue.

He however said White Paper would be out by June over the chieftaincy titles all over the state.

He said, “The government is not sleeping over the whole matter; the government has not lifted any ban on the executive order issued at inception of this administration.

“Is still in force and what I’m saying again is by June by the special grace of God, White Paper will be out concerning all these chieftaincy titles all over the state.

“Whereby everything that is needed to be done will be explicitly written in that white paper.

“So please, be rest assured that government will take take the appropriate step forestall any crisis in any part of this state.”
