PDP Senatorial Candidate, Ajagunla Fadeyi, Gives N18m Bursary To Students In Osun Central

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate, Ajagunla Olubiyi Fadeyi, has awarded N18 million worth of bursary to 800 students in the Osun Central Senatorial District, AMILOADED reports.

PhD students were given N50,000 bursary, the masters students were awarded N25,000 each, the finalists were given N20,000 to take care of their final year projects, while the rest were given N15,000 at the Bursary Award ceremony held at the Osogbo City Hall in Osogbo, Osun State on Wednesday.

The initiative of Ajagunla Foundation disclosed that no government for the past 15 years had deemed it fit to give bursary award to students as he was given bursary award during his final year in Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

He said, “One of our core values is supporting education. When I was in OAU, we normally get bursary award as a final year student but for the past almost fifteen years, no government, no senator has ever think about giving back to the society. So it is about giving back to the society and one of our agenda is education.

“Without education, you are going nowhere, we have no other choice, the youths have to be encouraged, they have to understand that education is the key to open doors in the world.

“So for me, for my little, I could contribute to the society. That is why I’m giving them bursary award for PhD holders, for Masters holders, for final year students and for the first year students in all tertiary institutions in Osun Central.”

Fadeyi promised to give bursary award every year to 2000 students in Osun Central if elected as senator in the forthcoming general election.

“I promise every year, when get elected, we will be giving 2000 students from Osun Central bursary award every. So in four years will be 8000 thousand students from Osun Central,” he added.

Also speaking, Hon. Tunde Badmus, the Personal Assistant to the governor of Osun State, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, said the bursary was a rising hope for the tertiary institution students, adding that the opposition party had not been able to do anything of such for the past 12 years in government.

He said the bursary award was part of the best programmes that students used to relieve their parents from some of the academic burdens.

The secretary of the PDP, Osun State chapter, Femi Karena, expressed his excitement to the bursary award Fadeyi gave to the students.

Karena said he was proud of Fadeyi, urging the students to obey instructions from their parents.

Some of the elated beneficiaries showered Fadeyi with prayers and promised to support him in the forthcoming general election.

Other dignitaries at the event included Akin Titiloye, Muniru Adebayo, Dr Muyiwa Oladimeji, Teslim Igbalaye, Omotayo Babalola, an Princess Ayo Awolowo, amongst others.
