Osun 2022: Oyetola Destroyed My Legacies Despite Pleading For Two Years, Says Aregbesola

The former governor of Osun State and Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, on Thursday said that his successor, Governor Gboyega Oyetola, destroyed his legacies despite begging him not to, AMILOADED reports.

He said he and other members of the ruling All Progressives Congress had struggled to ensure Oyetola’s victory at the 2018 governorship election and the way he (Oyetola) could pay him back was to ruin all he (Aregbesola) achieved in his eight years in office.

To this end, Aregbesola vowed not to allow Oyetola to get the party’s ticket on Saturday and would also ensure the governor doesn’t win the July 16 governorship election.

He urged party faithful to vote for Adeoti during the primary election.

Speaking in Yoruba at Isale-Abata area of Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of the state on Thursday, Aregbesola, in company of Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, the governorship aspirant of the APC faction loyal to the minister, Rasaq Salinsile, the party factional chairman among others, Aregbesola maintained that Oyetola betrayed him despite suffering to ensure his emergence as governor.

Aregbesola, at the constituency tour, said Oyetola has been battling him since he became governor and turned himself as his enemy. According to Aregbesola, the governor ignored entreaties and even shunned those he sent to him (Oyetola) to beg him not to destroy his legacies.

His words, “Those we assisted are now against us and we have reported them to God. He (Oyetola) will not return for second term. This Saturday’s primary election will determine his fate and we will chase him out of power with our votes.

“Oyetola, since he got to office have been in battle with me. He said that I don’t want him to become a governor but now that he is already a governor, what else does he want? I campaigned passionately for him under the rain but he has now turned himself to my enemy. I begged him for two years and even sent people to him but he refused. Everything we did together for 8 years, he destroyed.

“When I saw that he is firm on this enmity, I told God about it. If Bola Ige comes back to this earth, he will join us (his faction). We are carrying the mandate of this party. We painstakingly upheld this party from 2005. With all these, we reflected and decided to go back to the foundation.

“When Adeoti was angry with us (after 2018 governorship election), he did not insult us or speak against us. With joy and happiness, I am showing forth Adeoti, presenting him to you as the governor come July 16. Come en masse and vote for him. Oyetola is a traitor,” Aregbesola told the crowd of party supporters who thronged the open field.

Also speaking, Adeoti urged his supporters to vote him as the party flagbearer and assured that he would not disappoint them.
