Wife of Osun State governor, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, on Saturday 1st of January, 2022, welcomed the state’s first baby of the year at Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo.
Fourteen new babies comprising 3 males and 11 females were delivered on the eve of the new year in the state.
But the first baby of the year in the state weighing 2.8kg was delivered around 12:00a.m, while the second baby weighing 2.3kg was born around 2:00 am.
Speaking during the brief ceremony to welcome the newborn, Mrs. Oyetola charged parents to take proper care of the babies, and enable them have healthy growth.
Mrs Oyetola also implored parents to eschew any act capable of infringing on the right of girl child and also urged them to monitor their wards to prevent them from indulging in illicit drug abuse, cultism and other social vices.
She advised parents to duly register their newborn at any of the newly revitalised public health centres in the state to enable government monitor their progress for opportunities in health, education and other initiatives of government.
She also charged parents and all to take personal responsibility for themselves and the children by observing safety protocols against COVID-19.
Mrs. Oyetola while congratulating the family of the first baby of the year, Mr. Ibukun and Mrs. Folakemi Joseph, also advised parents to co-operate for proper upbringing of their children.
The first lady, who moved round the maternity ward of the hospital in company of health officials and wives of top government functionaries, later presented various gifts and cash to parents of the babies.
The second baby of the year, belonging to the family of Mr. Soliu and Mrs. Zainab Salami, weighing 2.3kg given birth to at about 2: am, also received gifts from the wife of the governor.
