Osun Killings: Commissioner Of Police Gives Fresh Update, Clears Air On Media Reports

 

 

Following the reports that unknown gunmen killed six herders of the same family on Satuday night in Wasinmi village, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, the State Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokade has however given fresh update on the incident.

 

In a statement on Sunday signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Opalola Yemisi said that the Commissioner of Police who visited the scene of the incident said the incident is not connected with any clash between famers and herders as speculated in some section of the media.

 

The CP urged reporters to verify their news before making it public in order to avoid disinformation that could trigger unnecessary crisis capable of disrupting the existing peace being enjoyed in the state.

The CP further said that preliminary investigations by the Police reveal that the unknown gunmen stormed, attacked and shot dead sporadically at the family of six and injured one person.

He said the police operatives from Ikire Division and other law enforcement agencies were promptly to the scene to prevent further attacks on the residents in the area and arrest the perpetrators but the attackers escaped on sighting the security team.

He noted that the Police Command has commenced investigations into the incident and already carrying out intensive manhunt for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

The Police Boss appealed to the residents of the state, particularly residents of Ikire and its environs not to panic but collaborate with the Police by giving timely information that will assist in arresting the culprits.

 

He, however, assured them of the commitment of the police to their safety, adding that adequate security measures have been emplaced to forestall future occurrences of such incident.
