Another Feather! Asiwaju-Odo Of Iwo, Alamu Appointed As Mayegun Of Ileogbo Kingdom

A prominent monarch in Osun State, His Royal Majesty Oba Abibu Adetoyese Agbaje, Arowo-Ookun Joye, The Olu of Ileogbo Kingdom has announced the appointment of a former Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Oguntola Jelil Alamu, as the new Mayegun of Ileogbo Kingdom.

Credible sources from the Palace of Olu of Ileogbo revealed to Amiloaded that the Traditional Council of Ileogbo Kingdom unanimously decided to fill the vacant highly revered chieftaincy position of Mayegun of Ileogbo following the demise of High Chief Emmanuel Adebayo Adegoke, the immediate past Mayegun of Ileogbo on 16th April, 2017.

The choice of the Asiwaju-Odo of Iwoland as the new Mayegun of Ileogbo Kingdom was informed by his antecedents in terms of his total commitment towards adding value to lives of all his acquaintances, his limited financial resources notwithstanding.

Prominent indigenes of Ileogbo Kingdom have also described the choice of Professor Oguntola Alamu as a barrier-breaking gesture by the Olu of Ileogbo Kingdom, aimed at promoting the much-needed love and healthy integration among all the sons and daughters of Iwo Federal Constituency.

According to Hon. Justice Oyejide Falola, the Chieftaincy title is significant. Mayegun symbolizes due process, peace and progress in the Kingdom. He lauded Oba Abibu Adetoyese Agbaje The Olu of Ileogbo Kingdom for the meritorious choice of the new Mayegun of Ileogbo Kingdom from another town within Iwo Federal Constituency.

In his words, “Royal Highnesses will help a lot if they can integrate our people more, such that we would see ourselves more as one United block in every facet of life”.

He said “Everybody that has ever met him (Alamu) would take interest in him. The awesome intellectual accomplishment of this Renaissance man has not taken away his humility, honesty, patriotic zeal and eagerness to assist whoever is in need.

“When he was installed the Asiwaju Odo of Iwoland, by the First-Class Monarch, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi The Oluwo of Iwoland, I was there to celebrate him. We are one and same people. We need to come together and get more integrated, such that all our efforts to develop our community and people will not continue to be in vain”.

The High Court Judge congratulated His Royal Highness, the Olu of Ileogbo Kingdom for breaking the barrier, and Professor Oguntola Alamu and his family for displaying strength of character that is worthy of celebration.

Ileogbo is the Headquarter of the present Ayedire Local Government, Osun State of Nigeria. By tradition of this ancient town, wife of the new Mayegun of Ileogbo Kingdom, Alhaja Oguntola Suliyat Olakemi will also be installed as Yeye-Mayegun of Ileogbo Kingdom.

Professor Oguntola Jelil Alamu hails from the Ogunajo family in Iwo. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Baptist High School, Iwo. He was trained as a Mechanical Engineer at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso and the University of Ibadan.

He is a member of notable professional organizations including Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigeria Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), Council for Renewable Energy in Nigeria (CREN) and African Wind Energy Association (AFRIWEA).

Professor Oguntola Jelil Alamu has amassed substantial teaching, research and administrative experience in Nigerian Universities. He rose through the ranks from Graduate Assistant to become a Professor in 2013 and delivered his inaugural lecture in 2016. He is an external examiner to six (6) Nigerian Universities and had established and nurtured various academic programmes for Universities in Nigeria.

He served on the Governing Council of Osun State University and is the immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University. He has just completed a one-year sabbatical Professorial assignment at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti and currently utilizing his accumulated leave as a visiting Professor at Oduduwa University.

The new Mayegun of Ileogbo Kingdom has rendered services to the community at local, state, national and international levels. He is a member of Ogunajo Descendants Union, Amity Club of Nigeria, Iwo, Allahu Mo’iy International Society and The Skatelinks, Iwo.

He is also the President and member of Board of Trustee of Albayan International Foundation (AIF). He was a participant at the National Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy Review. He has served as a State Inspector for the conduct of West African School Certificate Examinations and recently as the Chairman, Committee on the Repositioning of Tertiary Institutions in Osun State.

Professor Alamu has been an active participant at various programmes of Committee of Deans of Engineering & Technology of Nigerian Universities (CODET), Committee of Directors of Academic Planning of Nigerian Universities, Association of West Africa Universities (AWAU) and Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).

He participated at the 2016 International Quality Assurance for Higher Education held at the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom.

Professor Alamu was conferred with Award of Academic Excellence by the LAUTECH Alumni Association for breaking the record as the First LAUTECH graduate to become a Professor. He was also decorated with Distinguished Personality Award by LAUTECH Muslim Graduate Association (LAUMGA).

He equally bagged Productive Visionary Leader of Action Gold Award from Centre for Productive Visionary Leadership in Abuja. He was honoured with Merit Award by Baptist High School, Iwo Old Students Association (SOSAHIB). He was conferred with Special Award by the Nigeria Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE). He was decorated as Fellow of The International Chattered World Learned Society.

Other notable awards include Appreciation Award by the Nigerian Cardiac Society (NCS), Award of Recognition by the Osogbo Central Lions Club, Award of Excellence by the National Association of Osun State Students (Uniosun chapter and Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin Chapter), Distinguished Award by Diabetes Research Consortium (SIDCAIN), Award of Excellence by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Special Award of Excellence by the Association of Professional Women Engineers (APWEN), Appreciation Award by the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Award of Excellence by the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and Award of Excellence by the Federation of Iwoland Students Union (FILSU), Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin Chapter and Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun chapter.

He was honoured as the first recipient of/inductee into Hall of Fame by FILSU National Headquarters, Iwo. He was honoured as “Agbesinga Adeen” by Nawair-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Iwo branch and conferred with an Award of Excellence by Allahu Mo’iy International. Professor Oguntola Alamu was recently installed as the Asiwaju-Odo of Iwoland by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi The Oluwo of Iwoland.
