Investigations by Amiloaded have revealed that Mr. Sunday Owoeye who, on Monday, resigned his position as the Osun State Head of Service (HOS), might have given his job to save himself from an alleged scandal.
While his resignation left many workers in the state civil service in awe, another investigation had it that Owoeye might have been forced out of duty by some top echelon of the Rauf Aregbesola administration.
A source confided in Amiloaded that Mr. Owoeye engaged in some shaddy deal which could result into a big scandal for the state government, thus the option for him to resign his duty and “save his head.”
Efforts by our reporter to dig into this alleged “deal” that forced Owoeye’s means of livelihood from him could not yield results as the source fused to divulge it.
But the state Government of Osun has said Owoeye voluntary retired from the civil service through his resignation.
This was contained in a release made available to the public by the Media Adviser to the Governor, Mr Sola Fasure.
The statement reads, ” Mr Owoeye put in his notice of retirement on Monday October 16 and has proceeded immediately on terminal leave, which will last for 90 days.
“Mr Owoeye joined the Civil Service in the old Oyo State on March 3, 1983 and transferred his services to Osun at the creation of the state in 1991.
He was appointed Permanent Secretary in September 2012 and elected Head of Service by his peers immediately.
Mr Owoeye served meritoriously with integrity and fear of God. He is a thoroughbred technocrat who embodied the best tradition of the civil service.
His services to the state are invaluable and his departure will be hard to fill.
The State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, accepted his retirement, congratulates him on his retirement from service, wishes him a blissful and glorious post-service life and prays that he will be successful in all his endeavours,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lani Baderinwa has taken to one of his social media handles to appreciate the decision of Owoeye to resign praying God to guide him in his future endeavours.
Baderinwa added that “the former Head Of Service left behind a very big space in the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.”
The commissioner noted that the void Owoye created would be very hard to fill because he had been instrumental to the development in the State Civil Service.
Sunday Owoeye remains the first and only democratically elected HOS in Nigeria as he emerged genuinely in a legitimate process.
