
A video that went viral on Tuesday has captured the final moments of the late Chief Ayo Adebanjo, leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group Afenifere, in which he shared his own thoughts on how his passing would be announced.
The video features Adebanjo, alongside a woman’s voice identified as his daughter, where he humorously but somberly says, “Ayo Adebanjo, leader of Afenifere, the controversial man, is gone. He died at the age of 90-something. He spoke last to his daughter.”
Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the revered 96-year-old leader of Afenifere, passed away peacefully at his residence in Lekki, Lagos, on Friday, February 14, 2025.
A deeply respected Nigerian lawyer and nationalist, Adebanjo was born on April 10, 1928, in Ijebu-Ogba Oke, Ogun State.
