Waste Management Chairman Speaks On Disposal In Osun, Harps On Community Cleaning

The Chairman of the Association of Waste Management Handlers in Osun State, Hon. Olawale Olayemi, has spoken about waste disposal in the state.

The Chairman spoke to AMILOADED during the clearing of dumpsites in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Friday.

He said, “Our association is also know as public sector partnership partnering with the state government in collection and disposal.

“Normally when the dumbsite is over-filled with waste, we and the government are responsible for the clearing so that it will be easy for our trucks to offload and dispose off the waste.

“On our own side as PSP (Public Sector Partnership) we want to clear for just two days. From there, the government will continue.

“The state government of Osun engage almost 50 contractors for waste collection and disposal. In osogbo alone, we are about 24. Apart from PSP, the government trucks are also there doing everyday waste collection and disposal.”

Olayemi added, “On daily basis, government is having about 15 trucks collecting waste. Ours is 24 trucks.

“Today’s (Friday) clearing is of immense benefit to us and to the government trucks too. We are in the raining season and if the dumpsite is filled, it won’t be easy for our trucks to enter to dispose waste.

“We have about 24 companies collecting wastes on daily basis here in osogbo in osun state. The volume of waste we collect every day cleans our community.

“Apart from employment creation, our trucks are being repaired by mechanics, vulcanizers who are benefitting from this too. To a large extent we contribute graciously to the economy of Osun,” the Chairman stated.
