University Scholars, Others To Storm Osun For First Igbajo Community Education Summit

Prominent scholars from tertiary institutions across the country will on Tuesday July 27, 2021, storm Igbajo, Osun State for the first Igbajo Community Education Summit (ICES), AMILOADED reports.

The Summit with the theme, “Given every child equal opportunity to succeed”, will be hosted under the umbrella of Igbajo Development Association (IDA).

The Summit, which will be held at Professor Ademola Adeshina Hall, Owa’s Palace in Igbajo, Osun State, will examine the standards of primary and secondary education in the community and also proffer solutions to identified challenges.

The IDA had recently inaugurated the Igbajo Education Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Demola Onifade, former Commissioner of Education, Osun State.

The committee was tasked, among others, to convene a Summit to address the infrastructural challenges, human resources and sports facilities in primary and secondary schools in the Igbajo community.

At the inauguration, the IDA President, Mr. Sola Fanawopo, explained that the desire of the association was to transform the town from “a community of population to a community of human resources”.

Dr. Onifade disclosed that Chief Gboyega Awomolo (SAN), who is the Ashiwaju of Igbajoland, agreed to chair the Summit.

“Osun state commissioner of Educations, Hon. Folorunsho Oladoyin as well as his counterpart in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Dr. Olabode Henry Olaonipekun have also accepted to be our guests,” he added.

Dr. Onifade, who is also a member of Board of Trustee, Igbajo Polytechnic, stated that eminent scholars would deliver lecture at the Summit.

Dignitaries expected to deliver lecture include the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Igbajo Polytechnic, Prof. Layi Osungade; the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Design and Management, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Prof. Olubola Babalola; and the Senior Lecturer, Kings University, Ode-Omu, Osun State, Dr. Yemi Aje.

Also expected at the event are Chiefs and Bales from all the towns and villages in Igbajoland, school heads, policymakers, higher education officials, parents and students.
