The Special Adviser on Federal Project Implementation in Kogi State, Chief Emmanuel I. Obasi, has congratulated Prof Michael Awoke on his appointment as the fourth Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University.
In a congratulatory message issued and made available to newsmen on Monday, Chief Obasi, said Prof Awoke is a no-nonsense professor and man of integrity who is stubborn about his beliefs.
Chief Obasi stated that Prof Awoke appointment is a payback for his sacrifices and contributions to the development and growth of education in Ebonyi State.
The message reads, “I am most excited and delighted to join my family, numerous friends, junior and senior colleagues, staff and students of EBSU and the good people of Ebonyi State to congratulate Prof Awoke (aka: the man they couldn’t arrest) on his well deserved and long awaited appointment as the fourth Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki. This appointment is a reflection of the fact that what will be will be, it’s just a matter of time.
“On a personal note, this appointment is beyond mere appointment but a payback for all the sacrifices and contributions of Prof Awoke to the development and growth of education in Ebonyi State, particularly in EBSU, as well as his role as an Elder statesman in Ebonyi State in the Divine Mandate Campaign Organization. As a foundation staff, pioneer ASUU Chairman, Pioneer Director of Work and Study Programme and one time Deputy Vice Chancellor of EBSU among others, Prof Awoke has been around in EBSU for about 30 years now and has seen it all. It’s noteworthy that at a time like this that EBSU needs very serious consolidation and continuity on the gains already made, Prof Awoke stands out as the best man for the job.
“Moreover, as an Elder statesman Prof Awoke was also among the few elites of Ezza Ezekuna Clan who staunchly supported power shift to Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone through the Divine Mandate Campaign Organization in 2014/2015 and again in 2022/2023 he stoutly supported power shift to Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone. As a no-nonsense professor and man of integrity who is stubborn about his beliefs, he is mature and man enough not to stay on the fence on any issue. He takes side based on equity, justice and fairness no matter whose ox is gourd and stands his ground. His appointment is therefore a true and clear statement of fact that the victory of evil over good is only but temporary and no matter how hard we may try, destiny may be delayed but never denied.
“I therefore feel overjoyed that eventually, Professor Michael Awoke has in the long run been appointed the Vice Chancellor of EBSU by the Visitor to the University, His Excellency, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, a dream long awaited but has now come through. I must join well meaning Ebonyians to superlatively commend Gov Nwifuru for taking the bold decision to appoint an Ezza Ezekuna-born erudite Professor Awoke as the new VC of EBSU. For this singular appointment you have made me proud and I will remain grateful to you.
“In all, when success or victory is achieved, the pains of losses, sacrifices, deprivations, mockery and frustrations give way and even nature becomes at peace with you. Prof Awoke is a winner.

Chief Obasi also used in the same message congratulated Prof. Ike Elechi Ogba – Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Micahel Ajanwachukwu – Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Mrs. Ugochinyere Mba Uka – Registrar, Mrs. Roseline Nwuzor – Bursar
and Dr. Mrs. Victoria C. Nwali – Librarian insisting that all the appointments were well deserved.
