All Progressive Congress (APC) Chieftain, Engr. Asalu Ayodele David, popularly known as Asler, has offered Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and West African Examinations Council (WAEC) scholarships to 850 indigent students in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun.
Asler made this known during a press conference held on Tuesday at the Karowosaye Cooperative Building in Ejigbo.
He stated that the yearly education support program was his own contribution to academic pursuits and ensuring that out-of-school children return to classes.
According to him, over 4,320 students have benefited from the WAEC and UTME scholarships with free examination forms in the last 10 years, contributing to a significant number of graduates and undergraduates of tertiary institutions in Ejigbo Local Government and Ede Federal Constituency.
While emphasizing that this year’s edition aligns with his sustained commitment to the welfare of his people, Asler affirmed that 350 WAEC and 500 UTME free forms will be distributed to indigent and brilliant students in Ejigbo in 2025.
The APC Chieftain noted that the program will complement President Bola Tinubu’s vision of “education for all.”
He also reiterated that the education support program is proof of what is possible if truly committed people are placed in positions of power.
“While I have consistently funded this laudable initiative with my personal resources, we realize how many laudable things are possible if we’re able to put visionary people in government,” he added.
Engr. Ayodele called on well-meaning Nigerians, especially in Ejigbo Local Government, for more collaboration in funding education, while reiterating that education is a right, not a privilege.
He appealed to the Osun State government to provide more teachers to public schools and allocate more funds to education in the state.
While stating that the government cannot employ everybody, Asler advised graduates to learn skills and embrace farming to reduce demand on white-collar jobs.
The beneficiary students appreciated Asler for his kind gesture towards their education pursuits, promising to be good ambassadors wherever they found themselves.
