Osun 2022:Make Campaigns Issue- Based, Babayemi Urges Contenders

As the Osun State Governorship election draws nearer, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state,Omooba Dotun Babayemi, has implored contenders and related stakeholders on other political platforms to ensure they make campaigns for the July 16 election issue-based.

Babayemi advised that things that could heat up the polity must be avoided so as not to threaten the peace of the state,a development he feared, could further heighten its security tension.

In a statement issued by his media office,he charged all political parties that would participate in the July 16 election, to be prepared to convince the people of the state about their preparedness to govern through their programmes and agenda.

Babayemi further admonished that the election should be deviod of brickbats, mudslingings, and character assassination that could create unnecessary and avoidable tension; insisting that”Electioneering campaign should be an avenue for us to tell our people what we want to do better and differently too to ensure all-round developments. We should avoid turning the platform into a theatre of war where personalities are dragged and attacked”

“These are the things that trigger violence and most times, ending sadly with wanton destructions of lives and property. This ugly path we can avoid and we should avoid if truly our aim is to serve” he maintained

According to him,the state needs total support for it to be rescued from the hands of its current handlers, advising that no effort should be spared to achieve this;stressing,”Our state, Osun,is in dire need of a better hand to steer its ship to a successful berth. July 16,which is some months away, will soon provide that ample opportunity for the people to elect me as the new governor as being popularly yearned for”

The governorship hopeful assured that through him, the PDP would give the state and its people, the best when elected through the entrechment of enduring policies and programmes.

“With the help of God and the valued support of our people,I am determined to set Osun on the path of a new dawn that will even surpass the projections of our founding fathers. This,I am unwaveringly committed to achieving by His grace.

While expressing the optimism that he would coast home to victory at the July 16 polls,Babayemi reiterated the need to eschew violence before, during and after the election. He warned the youths not to allow themselves to be used for disruptive purposes.
