Unknown Gunmen Storm Police Division, Injure inspector

Six gunmen have attacked a police division in Bayelsa State, seriously wounding an inspector and taking his rifle away.

The attackers in an unmarked vehicle invaded Kolo Police Division in Ogbia council about 10.45pm on Monday and opened fire on three policemen in front of the station.

Sources said the assailants suspected to be cultists were armed with AK-47 rifles.

It was gathered that the policemen took cover but one of them was hit by a bullet and was seriously wounded.

The youth president of Kolo community Gift Okere-Onyiagholo claimed that the gunmen also returned on Tuesday, about 12 noon, and robbed a Point of Sale (POS) shop, carting away cash and phones.

Okere-Onyeagholo said: “We need the police in our area to be strengthened. They should increase the manpower and improve their working relationship with the community. We are not safe. Just imagine, after the cultists attacked the police station on Monday, they came back on Tuesday.”

Police spokesman Asinim Butswat confirmed the incident, saying investigations were on to apprehend the gunmen and recover the rifle.
