Unknown Gunmen Kill Fulani Leader

Suspected assassins, yesterday, killed a Fulani leader, Alhaji Abdullahi Hardo Buruku, popularly known as Alhaji Malam, in Lamba town, Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

This is coming less than two weeks after some suspected assassins murdered an aspirant for the post of Magaji in Ballah area of the same local government.

Speaking on the latest incident, the former Secretary of Miyetti Allah in Kwara, Alhaji AbdulAziz Muhammed, told Daily Trust the community leader was killed by gunmen who stormed his house at Lamba around midnight.

“They went straight to his bedroom and shot him on his chest. They made sure he was dead before they left. “For now, we don’t suspect anybody and their whereabouts is still unknown. But the deceased has been buried this morning according to Islamic rites,” he said.

Confirming the incident, the PRO of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Babawale Zaid Afolabi, said the command visited the community when it heard about the incident.

He told Daily Trust that about 30 men carried out the act.

A case of assassination was reported today from Lamba village and our intelligence officers went to the village to ascertain the fact of the information.

“At about 12:00am, some gunmen, about 30 in number, invaded Lamba village. Some of them went straight to one Mallam Abdullahi Guruku (a prominent herder). They met three persons in his room but only assassinated the deceased who was asleep and left without asking for anything.

“They also broke into some provision shops, carting away some drinks in the process”, Afolabi submitted.

Also, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust on Wednesday, adding that the command has commenced an investigation into the matter.

“Yes, it is true; we were told he was killed this morning in Lamba, Asa Local Government Area. We have already launched our investigation into the matter towards fishing out the culprits,” he added.
