In about two weeks after his election, the councilor representing Umuaku Ward 2 (Umunneochi LGA) of Abia State, Onyekachi Agu Charles has died in a road accident.
Charles, who was recently elected as a councillor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lost his life when the vehicle he boarded from Enugu State was involved in an accident on Monday.
The late councillor was sworn-in by Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, on December 22 together with other elected officials.
The Chairman of Umunneochi LGA, Ifeanyi Madu, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, described Charles’ death as unfortunate and shocking.
He described him as a young man with a vision.
According to the chairman, the late councilor died in a ghastly motor accident on his way back from Enugu.
He said the entire local government is in a mourning mood over the death which he said was shocking.
He expressed sadness that the late Councillor could not stay to enjoy the fruit of his labour after touring round his ward canvassing for votes that later brought him to power.
He called on the family of the bereaved to accept the loss though painful, saying only God knows the best.
