Alaroye Correspondent, Florence Babasola Launches Book On “Ede Yoruba” In Osun Today

 

Osun State correspondent of Alaroye Newspaper, Mrs Florence Babasola will today launch her new book titled ‘Ede Yoruba Lona Irorun’.

In a statement personally signed by her, the ace newspaper journalist said the launching will hold at Osun NUJ Press Center, Beside Government Technical College, Osogbo-Iwo Road, Osogbo.

She said she was disturbed by the fate of Yoruba Language, which is suffering rapid erosion, therefore looking for a way to rescue the language from total extinction.

According to the statement, “If the assertion that ‘language remains a strong means of preserving culture,’ is true, then Yoruba language is at the risk of extinction.

“One is scared at the rate Yoruba language is sliding into obscurity because more native speakers, especially the younger generation of Yoruba men and women now prefer to relate in English language.

“Also, owing to non usage of the language by their parents, even those in primary and secondary schools, are no more interested in speaking the language.

“Curiously, this is happening to Yoruba language at the time more people from every part of the world are showing interest in learning the language because of its richness.

“For every Yoruba cultural enthusiasts, this calls for sober reflection.

“Although there have been efforts to protect the language by encouraging teachers to use it as a medium of communication with their pupils.

“But the need to further build on the ground already reclaimed made me to pay more attention and observe some simple Yoruba topics and sentences that are ideal for the young ones to know.

“The outcome of that exercise is therefore the book titled “Ede Yoruba Lona Irorun

“I intend to unveil the 52-page book by December 3rd, 2020. In recognition of your efforts to save Yoruba language and repackage the culture, I wish to invite you
as the SPECIAL GUEST OF HONOUR for the book launch.

“The book launch will have a former Nigeria Ambassador to Philippines, Dr. Yemi Farounbi, as Guest Speaker.

“I will be glad if you can honour me with your presence at the venue of the event -Osun NUJ Press Center, beside Government Technical College, Osogbo-Iwo Road, Osogbo. Thanks and God bless you.”
